ColumbiaVotes Fellowships
Fellowship Information
ColumbiaVotes Fellows are responsible for getting out the vote at Columbia. This semester, we hope to equip members of the Columbia community with the tools and knowledge needed to be active, registered voters. We are looking for engaged students who are interested and passionate about voting rights, field organizing, and civic engagement. We especially encourage first-year students to apply.
Position Descriptions:
Marketing Fellows: Marketing Fellows will work on social media and marketing material with the Communications Director, Rebeca Lopez-Anzures. Past projects include reminders about registration deadlines, student voting behavior surveys, and highlights of voting rights/civic engagement campaigns. Your work would include creating posts about important information regarding voting (deadlines, informational blurbs, etc.), setting up a social media schedule, and creating marketing strategies for increasing voter turnout and civic awareness on campus and beyond. Social media skills and experience with Canva is a plus.
Research Fellows: Research Fellows will work on creating and distributing voting resources with the Research Director, Bella Park. Past projects include maintaining a database of voting deadlines by state and collecting information on how to become a poll worker. This semester, we will focus on creating articles, pamphlets, and other tabling tools for the Columbia community, especially in anticipation of the 2025 New York City mayoral election. Strong writing skills and an interest in civic engagement are a plus.
Digital Fellows: Digital fellows will facilitate the development of a brand new ColumbiaVotes website. They will also have the opportunity to curate the newsletter and other online resources and collect voter data. They will meet weekly or bi-weekly with the Digital Director, Elaheh Khazi, and other deputies to discuss progress and different strategies to move forward with everyone’s projects.
Outreach Fellows: Outreach Fellows will work on coordinating and cultivating partnerships within the Columbia community and with other organizations in New York promoting civic engagement alongside Outreach Director, Jessica Ye. They will get out into the neighborhoods to register voters, table at community events, and facilitate relationships with other clubs and groups at Columbia. Previous experience in outreach campaigns or knowledge of and passion for voting logistics is a plus.
ColumbiaVotes Democracy Fellows: Fellows are responsible for organizing students on and off-campus in order to support our long-term goals of voter registration, education, and engagement. Democracy Fellows will work with our Membership Director, Zoë Berry, and our Programming Director, Ann Dai, to recruit, educate, and engage students in the electoral process. Specifically, fellows will work on voter registration projects throughout the semester, including registration tabling. Fellows will also work on planning events throughout the semester that engage the Columbia and Morningside Heights communities in civic engagement education. Other projects will help support the Outreach, Digital, and Research teams.
FOR ALL POSITIONS: Attendance at ColumbiaVotes general body meetings and meetings with your team is expected. To be eligible for a future Board position, you must attend a minimum of 3 General Body Meetings a semester, and a majority of meetings with your team. Attendance will be taken. This is a great way to get more involved with the club and civic engagement efforts on campus.
